Dal Dhokali
Ingredients for Dal Dhokali:
  • Toor Dal (Arhar)  - 1/2  cup
  • Wheat Flour (atta) - 1/2 cup
  • Bengal Gram Flour (besan) - 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder (Haldi) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder (Lal mirch) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida  (Hing) - 1/8 teaspoon
  • Peanuts (Moongfali) - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee/Butter (Makkhan) - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard Seeds (Rai) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic (Lehsun) 4 cloves chopped
  • Curry Leaves (Curry patte) - A few
  • Gamboge (kokum)  - 3 no's
  • Jaggery (Gud) - 1 inch piece
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhaniya Patte) - A few chopped
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Method for Dal Dhokli:
  • Soak toor dal for 15 minutes and then boil.
  • Mix wheat flour and gram flour, add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, half the
  • asafoetida, oil and sufficient water to knead into a hard dough.
  • Add peanuts and turmeric powder to the dal when it is half done.
  • Roll out thin rotis of the dough and cut into strips or desired shape and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and garlic and curry leaves and add to the dal.
  • Add the dough strips to the dal and allow to cook, add kokum for tanginess, then add
  • salt to taste..
  • Enjoy hot Dal Dhokali garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
