Ingredients for Lauki Kofta Curry:
  • Bottle Guard (Lauki) - 1/2 Kg 
  • Bengal gram flour (Besan)  - 1 cup
  • Onion (Piyaz) - 2 no's chopped
  • Tomatoes (Tamatar) - 3 no's chopped
  • Garlic (Lehsun) - 4 cloves chopped
  • Ginger (Adrak) - 1 inch piece chopped
  • Coriander powder (Dhaniya) - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder (Haldi) - 1 teaspoon
  • Spices (Garam masala) - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder (Lal mirch) - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
Method for Lauki Kofta Curry:
  • Peel the skin of lauki and grate it.
  • Pressure cook the grated lauki for one whistle and let it cool.
  • Mix the cooked lauki and the Besan, add salt 1/2 tsp turmeric and 1/2 tsp of the chilli
  • powder and mix well with enough water to form like a loose dough.
  • Make small balls out of the mixture or dough and deep fry the balls in medium heat, till
  • they turn golden brown.
  • Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, let them splutter, then add onions and
  • fry till brown.
  • Add ginger and garlic and fry for a minute, then add salt and the rest of the spices,
  • tomatoes and saute it for a while.
  • Add some water and let the gravy boil enough to become little thick.
  • Add the fried koftas and boil the gravy for five to ten minutes.
  • Enjoy hot Lauki Kofta Curry with rice and roties.
