Vegetarian Recipes - South Indian Recipe

Ingredients for Rawa Kichadi:
  • Rawa (Suji) - 1 cup
  • Asafoetida (Hing) - A pinch
  • Mustard seeds (Sarson) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Chana dal - 1 teaspoon\
  • Curry leaves - A few
  • Green Beans - 1/4 cup chopped
  • Carrot (Gajar) - 1/4 cup chopped
  • Green peas (Hari matar) - 1/4 cup Boiled
  • Onion (Piyaz) - 1 no's chopped
  • Green chillies (Hari mirch) - 2 no's chopped
  • Oil - 2 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Method for Rawa Kichadi:
  • Roast rawa lightly without oil to make it crisp and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a fry pan and add mustard seeds, let them splatter,  then add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and green chilli and roast lightly.
  • Add a pinch of asafoetida, then add onions and fry until they turn colorless.
  • Now add the vegetables, salt and fry them until they turn soft , add the red chillie powder.
  • Now add 3 cups of water and when it begins to boil add rawa and keep stirring till all the water is absorbed and it becomes thick.
  • Enjoy hot Rawa (Suji) khichadi  or khichri with coconut chutney or green chutney.
