Vegetarian Recipes - South Indian Recipe

Ingredients for Appam:
  • Rice (Chawal) - 1 cup
  • Idli rice - 1 cup
  • Urad dal - 1/4th cup
  • Baking soda - 1/8 teaspoon
  • Sugar (Chini) - 1 teaspoon
  • Fenugreek (Methi) - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Coconut (Nariyal) - 1/2
  • Salt to taste
Method for Appam:
  • Soak both the rice varieties and urad dhal in water for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Grind dal and also grind both rice together with the fenugreek.
  • Mix dal and rice together and keep aside for fermentation for atleast 10 hours.
  • Before making appam add salt, cooking soda, sugar and coconut milk.
  • The batter should be a little watery than the dosa batter consistency .
  • Heat oil in shallow non-stick pan, pour the batter and close it with a lid for 5 seconds.
  • Do not turn it like dosa.
  • Enjoy Appam with coconut milk and kurma.
