Ingredients for Appam:
- Rice (Chawal) - 1 cup
- Idli rice - 1 cup
- Urad dal - 1/4th cup
- Baking soda - 1/8 teaspoon
- Sugar (Chini) - 1 teaspoon
- Fenugreek (Methi) - 1/2 tablespoon
- Coconut (Nariyal) - 1/2
- Salt to taste
Method for Appam:
- Soak both the rice varieties and urad dhal in water for 3 to 4 hours.
- Grind dal and also grind both rice together with the fenugreek.
- Mix dal and rice together and keep aside for fermentation for atleast 10 hours.
- Before making appam add salt, cooking soda, sugar and coconut milk.
- The batter should be a little watery than the dosa batter consistency .
- Heat oil in shallow non-stick pan, pour the batter and close it with a lid for 5 seconds.
- Do not turn it like dosa.
- Enjoy Appam with coconut milk and kurma.
