Ingredients for Rajma Masala:
- Red kidney beans (Rajma)- 1/4 Kg
- Oil - 3 tablespoon
- Onions -2 (finely chopped)
- Tomatoes 2 (finely chopped)
- Bay leaves - 2
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon chopped
- Garlic - 1 tablespoon chopped
- Asafoetida - A pinch
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- coriander leaves - A bunch
- salt to taste
Method for Rajma Masala:
- Wash the Red kidney beans (Rajma) thoroughly and soak overnight in sufficient amount of water.
- Do not drain the water of soaked rajma, place them in a pressure cooker, add more water if required and then add salt .
- Place the cooker on flame , close the cooker ,after one whistle, cook on low level till the beans are soft.
- Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Add the bay leaves, asafoetida and chopped ginger-garlic, fry for a minute.
- Add the onions and fry till they are golden brown then add all the spice powders except garam masala.
- Add the tomatoes , fry till the oil separates and add salt according to taste.
- Add the cooked red kidney beans, mix well and cook on medium level for about 10 minutes.
- Add the garam masala,cover and cook on medium level for about 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
- Enjoy Rajma Masala with white rice.
